I wanted a burger and I wanted a good burger with all the bells and whistles. I’ve been on a no carb diet, so this was a cheat evening. I usually go to Hudsons and have their “Guido” style burgers ( its a patty / chicken breast on a bed of lettuce instead of a bun). I wanted to try some place new and decided to try out the Royale Eatery situated in Long Street. I immediately googled the place to see what’s on offer and I was delighted to read this little statement ( or fact) on their website :
“Royale is a restaurant.
We serve burgers.
Not just any burgers –
burgers that make your soul tingle and your dreams come true”
After reading their promise of creating burgers that will make souls tingle… I had to try it out. We arrived there at about 7pm with no booking and the hostess gave us a table quite quickly. We were only 2 people. I do suggest that if you in a bigger group that you book before the time because it gets packed pretty quickly (especially on a Friday night).
The decor appeared vintage, classic and old school all in one glance. I fell in love with the decor. Old music sheets decorated the walls like wallpaper. The toilet had a wash basin which was basically a bucket with a water pump. Loved it!
I read through the menu and I must admit they have a large variety of burgers. They offer pizza and salads as well. I asked the waiter if the meat burgers were halal. She said no. After being slightly disappointed, I could opt for the soy or chicken burger. I ordered the chicken burger with feta cheese and sweet potato fries (you can choose between sweet potatoes fries, normal shoe string fries or a salad). We also tried the veggie burger with cheddar cheese. Both burgers were ok. I wouldn’t say it tingled my soul or made my dreams come true but it definitely satisfied the hunger pains.
The fact that I couldn’t really try their meat burger was a little bit of a downer as I’m sure that these are the specialty.
I must admit, I was pretty full and couldn’t really order any dessert, but when I read their dessert menu and milkshake options, I wished I ate dessert instead.
If you looking for an affordable place to hang out with your friends in a quirky environment, then this is definitely the place to go to.
The service is impeccable and I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

On the to-do list it goes!
(My to-do list should really stop consisting of things to eat.)
I love the Royale Eatery and consider it my best burger place. I have nominated you for The Liebster Award – have a look on my blog where I mention you. Keep blogging lovelies – I enjoy reading your posts, especially the travel ones. It gives me wanderlust all over again 🙂
Looks so cosy! Definitely will be trying it out soon 🙂
