The Dogs Bollocks aka “The Yard” or “Bitches Tits”, is a very “hipster” type of restaurant (or should I say garage/ driveway) situated in Roodehek Street in Cape Town. I’ve been hearing about this place for a while now and decided to check it out this weekend. We parked very close to the Hope Street Market as parking is a nightmare in this little street. Walking inside, we were greeted by a young gentlemen, who calls himself “Cheese on Toast.” Yes that’s the quirkiness that exudes from this original setup. Please ladies, no heels! The floor is a little uneven and you might get death stares from the local patrons.
The tables and chairs are wrought iron with very comfy cushions. The grill area is in the middle at which point you can confirm that that cleanliness is present when observing the cooks grill the burgers.
The rules: Write your name on the chalkboard. Next to your name you need to indicate the number of meals you would like to order as well as the drinks you took from the fridge (It’s an honest system). Once your name is called, you go up to the grillers and tell them what you want. The wait is quite long – between 25 to 30 minutes. But well worth it!
We waited about 30 minutes before ordering and enjoyed a cuppa cappuccino from the coffee bar for only 12 bucks! Bargain! We had the chicken with garlic and chilly sub. The portions are huge and I ended up taking half home for later. The flavours were hearty, homely and fresh. Yum for a cold Saturday morning. The atmosphere relaxed and vibey at the same time. A place to just “CHILL THE FUCK OUT!” . DAMAGE : R130 for 2 burgers and 2 drinks! Not bad for lunch! (and some home for dinner).
Upon leaving, I visited the loo and it appeared clean and neat. The only thing is … there was no mirror. There is a sign where the mirror should be above the sink and it says “You look fucking amazing.” Upon leaving, I smiled and thought… “I need to get a mirror like that!”

Monday to Friday after 5pm – 50 burgers are served. Once they out, you don’t get. Simple as that. Saturdays they open till about 2pm. On Saturdays they serve sandwiches, subs and sarmies. No burgers. Its a cash only vibe, so leave the plastic at home.
