Were you aware that Polokwane has an airport? I wasn’t until I was booked on the (roughly) 35 minute flight from Joburg to the capital of the Limpopo Province via the Polokwane International Airport.
We were greeted by lots of little children waving at us from the airport. Apparently, that’s not a daily occurrence and I’m also pretty sure that they didn’t come to wave at us specifically. Either way, it was a bit of an MJ-moment.
The airport was quite small and I wondered what international flights ever landed there. The woman at Avis was fairly helpful and gave us a map directing us to the town and the hotel. It was about a 30 minute drive to get to the hotel. As I was attending a conference, there were sooooooo many people trying to check in at the same time. Eventually, I was checked into my room and transported the five minute distance via a golf caddy.
I liked the personalised welcome note –
The room was not part of the main hotel but a different section (that was on the golf course). It was not particularly modern but quite nice.
The room was spacious and had a bath and shower, with a lovely view of the golf course.
The only thing that annoyed me to no end was the lack of wifi connectivity. The hotel has free wifi but it hardly worked for the entire time I was there. It could have been due to the fact that 300 plus delegates were given tablets at the registration of the conference and maybe the hotel could not handle us all trying to connect.
One of the highlights of the trip was that we had the opportunity to have dinner at a restaurant in “the bush”.
It was pretty amazing and we got to see lions feeding!
The hotel has plenty of great activities – you can choose to walk with lions and/ or go on game drives. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to indulge in those activities. Maybe next time!

Your room does look lovely. And I sympathise with the lack of wifi. I had the same experience in UK hotels – free wifi – oh but a lousy connection!
A friend of mine went walking with the lions – highlight of her life pretty much. Next time you have to 🙂
I was depending on that free wifi to get my work done! Oh well, lesson learnt, will have back up next time I see “free wifi”. I would have loved to do the walk with lions. Think I really missed out there! Hopefully next time (if I’m ever there again). I had to attend all the conference sessions though – had to write it all up 🙂
So annoying when work keeps intruding into one’s life! 🙂
Hahahaha! That is true, in more ways than one. Wish I was there for pleasure not business 🙂
