Black Friday 2016
So, it’s that time of the year again and just about everyone has jumped on the Black Friday/ Cyber Monday bandwagon. What started off as a predominantly online phenomenon in South Africa has spread like wildfire. At this point it would probably be easier to make a list of those retailers who are not doing Black Friday this year but we will do our best.
- Takealot is running the “Blue Dot Sale”. It is set to be pretty huge. Some deals are going live from Tuesday the 22nd November at 4pm (on the app only). These will be updated daily. The big sale will start on Thursday the 24th and will carry on all weekend. Be sure to use the app to get in early.
- Spree has already started running preview specials this week. They are also promising big specials on Friday and encouraging shoppers to sign up to the newsletter for Black Friday updates.
- TFG Black Friday is going to be huge. As many of you know, their online platform has exploded to include Totalsports, Sportscene, @Home, Due South, Markhams, Foschini, Fabiani, Hi, Relay Jeans and Anatomy. They are going to be running big specials online all weekend. Totalsports will start their sale at 10pm on Thursday.
- Runway Sale No word on what they have in store but they do sometimes have their R1 specials which are great if you have fast fingers.
- Travelstart will be running Black Friday all weekend and are promising big specials.
- Clicks will be running online only Black Friday specials over the weekend.
- WeChat For those of you who don’t know, WeChat Wallet actually has pretty amazing specials. They are running Green Friday and have some great gaming specials: WeChat Customers can buy a Sony Playstation 4 500GB slim console + Doom + GOW + V Rossi 17 Bundle for only R3549 or an Xbox 1 500 GB + FIFA 17 Bundle for only R1999 when paying using your WeChat Wallet.
- Boardriders will be having an online sale. We are not quite sure about the physical stores. They stock DC, Roxy and Quicksilver.
- Dion Wired specials run online and it says “up to 50% off”‘
- Makro will also be running specials all weekend online. They often have great deals on tech.
- BidorBuy are having specials all week.
- A few online retailers have been quiet about Black Friday but in the past have taken part. Keep an eye on Loot, Yuppichef and MrPrice.
For those of you who prefer the hustle and bustle of shopping in stores:
- Checkers , who have fully embraced Black Friday in previous years, are promising huge savings. They haven’t released any teasers yet but if last year is anything to go by, its going to be chaos!

- DSTV Explorer will be available at Dion Wired, Incredible connection and some other stores for R1490 (including installation).
- Sunglass Hut- Up to 60% off
- HIFI Corporation- Up to 80% off.
