Thailand is a top destination for South Africans and many want to get in on the action. If you’re thinking of planning your own trip, be sure to read this on how to DIY your trip. For my first trip, using the DIY info, I created my own itinerary that you might find useful. Feel free to use it for your own planning and edit as you see necessary. Subsequent trips could include Chang Mai and Koh Samui.
Day 2: Shop at the MBK and other mega-malls in Siam.
Day 4: If you’re around on a weekend, get lost in the Chatuchuk / JJ Market for some excellent bargains.
Day 5: Get from your Bangkok hotel to Don Mueang Airport (via taxi may be easiest). Use domestic flights through Air Asia (recommended) or Thai Air (not so recommended). Arrive at Phuket Airport & get to your hotel via an airport shuttle if you don’t care about time (you can get one just outside the airport) or a private taxi. Check out these hotel reviews for the Holiday Inn Express & the Burasari in Patong. If you feel like splashing out a bit more, try a Burasari Mood Suite.
Day 6: Check out the beaches & the nightlife in Patong. Massages are mandatory!
Day 7: Do a tour of Phang Nga Bay (including the James Bond Island).
Phi Phi Island
Day 9: Take a tour of Maya Bay from Phi Phi Island.
Day 10: Head back to Phuket via the ferry. More partying & chillaxing in Phuket.
Day 11: Get to Phuket Airport, catch your flight home!
