As a Capetonian, it’s not everyday that I get to stay in a hotel in Cape Town. Well it seems it was my lucky day as we had our annual planning workshop at the Lagoon Beach Hotel and they put us up for the night. As the name suggests, it is right on the pretty Lagoon Beach.
Unlucky for us, we had terrible weather so plans for Tai Chi on the beach had to be re-scheduled. We still managed to take a freezing walk along the beach though. I guess that’s what happens when your colleagues from Joburg come down to visit (they want to see the sea)!! We saw some people releasing doves on the beach…………. I remember the last time we were there, we saw a guy that stood on the same spot for hours in the water. After theorizing what on earth he was up to, we just had to ask and he said he was looking for shark teeth. Ok……
Check out my summary vid here:
The next day the weather was a bit better so I woke up early and went for a run on the beach (ok, ok, more of an almost-as-slow-as-walking jog). I probably would have done better in the hotel gym but I wasn’t sure what time it opened.
I thought the hotel room was really nice.
It had that beachy feeling without being kitsch. It had all the basics with a little bit extra (lots of charging space!).
The one thing I was dissapointed by was the bed. I foolishy thought it was a king-size bed when it was actually two single beds pushed together. I’m no diva, I don’t have a problem with that. The problem was that while I was sleeping I kept feeling my feet go off the ends of the bed. You must understand, I am not a tall person and have never experienced being in a bed too small (short) for me!!
I also had a chance to check out the Camelot Spa on the premises. The massage was amazing. Initially I asked for a hard massage and after two seconds I had to sheepishly say ‘make it a medium massage’ and the masseur laughed. She was really skillful! I liked that she also covered my hair with a towel to stop it from getting oily.
I think the Lagoon Beach Hotel is a good place to hold a conference or just have a beach holiday. We were extremely well fed and they have great facilities. I hope we can go back next year again!
