My in-laws gifted me with a fantastic birthday voucher to use at Angsana Spa. They must agree with that saying “happy wife, happy life“!
I’ve never been to Angsana but I knew they were situated in the picturesque Vineyard Hotel. The gardens there are so beautiful. If I was a fairy, it would be one of my top spots to sprinkle fairy-dust about. Just to be clear, I’m referring to Disney NOT drugs.
Check out the vlog here:
I called in December to make an appointment for the next day. Yeah right! ,they were booked out till the end of January ( very understandable). I called again in Feb and low and behold, booked out again. Huh? Tried to make an online booking, nope booked out till May! What’s going on here? I don’t really like booking so far in advance but I just had to do it.
Finally, the day had arrived. I didn’t realise at the time that it was Mother’s Day. Oops! , bad daughter award for me. Anyway, they called on the day to confirm the appointment. I asked about sauna and pool facilities – they said they’re not that type of spa. That got me wondering, how on earth is this place so busy when they hardly have any “spa facilities”?
I got there early and walked around the Vineyard Hotel gardens taking photos. It was such a beautiful day.
I was booked in for the Warmth Treatment which promised 2 hours of relaxation (I know right, go big or go home!). I am perpetually cold so a “warmth treatment” was right up my alley. Nui ( the massage therapist) greeted me and she seemed eager and friendly – she really put me at ease. Did I mention I had a migraine?
They didn’t have a changing room which I thought was a bit odd.
When I entered the treatment room, I was relieved as it was it was huge, bright and sunny. My robe was waiting for me (no changing room needed). Best of all…the massage bed was heated.
It was a damn good massage! It had some Thai elements in it – which meant I was pulled and cracked a bit. It was far more gentle than the Thai massages I had in Thailand. It was highly enjoyable.
I sometimes feel a full body massage is wasted when it gets down to the legs. This was definitely not the case here – Nui bent my limbs and really got into those places that I didn’t even know had muscles. I know that sounds weird, but try it, it is so worth it.
After an amazing 2 hours I was offered some ginger tea with honey. I don’t do 1) ginger or 2) honey but I think they converted me. It was heavenly.
So now I understand why Angsana, despite having few “spa facilities”, is always booked out!

With those beautiful gardens I can understand why they’re so popular! I usually opt for a back and neck massage because that’s obviously where the most tension is, don’t get the legs part either.
Hey Gaynor, thanks for the feedback. Definitely true about the garden setting – it just makes everything so tranquil and relaxed. You should give the full body a try, I wouldn’t recommend it at most places but Angsana’s on another level – Rif
I love this blog. Thank you all for being equally lovely and inspiring! I’ve heard about this spa and now feel compelled to go when I visit Cape Town.
